St Patrick’s Catholic Church was constructed in 1914-17 and sits adjacent the 1866 Convent of Mercy building. The Church, the Convent of Mercy and St Mary’s Central School all front Percy to form an historic streetscape.

This discovery of gold plus the coming of the railway in 1880 brought growth, though not a sudden boom, to Wellington and it was during this period that many of the older buildings in the town were built The Bank of New South Wales, which is now the Oxley Museum, was built in 1883.

Wellington Railway Station

Wellington Railway Station

The Wellington Railway Station was built in 1880 and is a fine example of the Victorian Gothic style roadside Station building and platform. Constructed of local rose red bricks from the Wellington Brick Kiln, it was originally unpainted with the cement plaster decorative surrounds of the doors and windows painted in white. The building has since been painted, as you can see in this recent photo.
